Sandara Park performs for first time since 2NE1 split
PHILIPPINES — Sandara Park on Saturday performed on live television for the first time since her female K-pop group, 2NE1, broke up.
Park sang "Kiss," her first official single in South Korea, with the finalists of "Pinoy Boyband Superstar." She is one of the judges of the talent show.
2NE1 broke up on November 29, news that YG Entertainment confirmed through its website.
Park has apologized to her fans over the "painful" news and promised that she will "treasure" their "wonderful memories forever."
PHILIPPINES- Many were distraught to learn that the iconic K-pop girl group 2NE1 has officially disbanded, but none more so than Sandara Park herself who took to Instagram to pen a message to their fans following the "painful" news.
"The announcement last Friday was very painful to ALL of us," she began. "But the past seven years has been filled with good and wonderful memories I will treasure forever. We - CL, Bom, Minzy, and I - will always be 2NE1."
"And you will always be our loyal, supportive, and loving Blackjacks!" added Park, referring to the collective name of their fanbase. "That will never, ever change. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
Last Saturday, Park passed on a handwritten apology, which she did not post on her social media accounts, to some fans during a live taping of "Pinoy Boyband Superstar," where she sits as a judge.
It came a day after YG Entertainment confirmed 2NE1's split via an official release on the company's website. The agency said that it is "deeply saddened" to let the girl group go after seven years but has decided that it will instead focus on the members' solo activities.
2NE1 surged in popularity with their 2009 debut single "Fire," and went on to break the record for the highest-charting K-pop album on the Billboard 200 with their final effort, 2014's Crush. The group last performed together at the 2015 Mnet Asia Music Awards.
YG Entertainment has announced the disbandment of the group composed of Minzy, CL, Bom, and Dara, as reported by the K-Pop website Soompi.
Below is the translated statement of YG Entertainment, as published in Soompi:
"2NE1's exclusive contract expired in May 2016, and with Minzy leaving 2NE1, we have come to the decision to officially disband after extensive discussion with the remaining members.
"As 2NE1 was YG's official girl group for seven years, we cannot begin to express how we feel, but we determined that it was too difficult to continue. Rather than waiting an unknown amount of time for 2NE1's next promotions, we have decided to focus on the members’ solo activities.
"We sincerely thank all the fans both in Korea and abroad that have loved the group and their music for all this time.
"We would like to officially announce that after last May, we resigned with CL and Sandara Park. However, unfortunately, there is no new contract with Park Bom."
2NE1 is behind the hits "Fire," "I Am the Best" and "I Don't Care," among others.
One of its members, Sandara Park, is part of the jury of the ABS-CBN talent search "Pinoy Boyband Superstar."
